Senior Pastor Job Description
Reports To: Church Board / Elders (Creekside Community Church is an elder led church.)

Position Overview
The Senior Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader and shepherd of Creekside Community Church. Called to preach the Word of God faithfully, disciple believers, and lead in a Christ-centered, grace-filled manner, the Senior Pastor models humility, holiness, and servant leadership. This role involves guiding the church in spiritual growth, biblical understanding, and lead Creekside’s vision while exemplifying a life surrendered to Christ. The Senior Pastor is approachable, genuine, able to foster meaningful relationships, and demonstrate a joyful, Christ-centered character in daily life.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preaching and Teaching
- Exposit and passionately proclaim the Word of God faithfully, clearly, and practically, emphasizing both grace and truth. (2 Tim. 3:16; 4:2; Heb. 4:12) 
- Ensure all teaching aligns with Scripture and Christ-centered theology. (1 Tim. 4:16; Col. 3:16) 
- Equip the congregation to understand, apply, and live out biblical truths in daily life. (2 Tim. 3:16) 
- Creekside values deep expositional and collaborative teaching. A teacher that is a student of the word and willing to take feedback and guidance. 
- A teacher that is inspirational. 
2. Spiritual Leadership & Shepherding
- Provide pastoral care, counsel, and spiritual guidance with empathy, patience, and grace. (1 Pet. 5:2-3) 
- Provide pastoral care and oversight to the Creekside staff. (Acts 20:2) 
- Daily model prayer, devotion, integrity, and Christlike character. (1 Tim. 4:12) 
- Mentor emerging leaders and cultivate a culture of discipleship. (2 Tim. 2:2) 
- Demonstrate a joyful, Spirit-filled demeanor that encourages and uplifts the congregation. (Nehemiah 8:10; Phil. 4:4) 
3. Vision and Strategic Leadership
- Lead the church in vision, mission, and strategy in alignment with biblical principles. (Prov. 29:18; Matt. 28:19-20) 
- Inspire the congregation to live out the gospel in families, workplaces, and communities. 
- Oversee programs, staff, and volunteers to ensure unity, collaboration, and servant leadership. (1 Cor. 12:27-31) 
4. Administration & Governance
- Collaborate with the elders and board members to make leadership and financial decisions. (Proverbs 11:14) 
- Collaborate with staff to manage church operations responsibly. (1 Corinthians 14:40 
- Uphold biblical ethics, accountability, and grace in church policies and procedures. 
- Steward church resources, including budgeting and reporting, with integrity. (1 Cor. 4:2) 
5. Community Engagement & Outreach
- Represent Creekside Community Church in the community, demonstrating Christ’s love. (Matt. 5:16) 
- Encourage members in evangelism, service, and social outreach. (1 Pet. 4:10) 
- Collaborate with other ministries to advance the Kingdom of God. (Eph. 4:3-4) 
- Build authentic, relational connections both inside and outside the church community; be personable and approachable. (James 3:17-18) 
Biblical & Doctrinal Qualifications
- Has a passion to serve as an overseer and meets the qualifications listed in Scripture. (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) 
- A man of one wife — demonstrates marital faithfulness, loyalty, and purity; if single, exhibits self-control over lust. (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:6) 
- Strong doctrinal knowledge; loves Scripture and applies it daily. (Ps. 1:2; 2 Tim. 3:16-17) 
- Life-long student of God’s word, allowing it to shape life and ministry. (Acts 20:32; Col. 3:16) 
- Able to teach and handle the Word accurately; encourages with sound doctrine and refutes false teaching. (2 Tim. 2:15; Titus 2:1; Jude 3) 
Character & Integrity Qualifications
- Above reproach, humble, gentle, temperate, self-controlled, disciplined, holy, and respectable. (1 Tim. 3:2-3; Titus 1:7-8; Phil. 2:3-4) 
- Faithful to spouse or self-controlled if single; manages household well; children respectful. (1 Tim. 3:4-5) 
- Hospitable, personable, approachable, and maintains a good reputation with those inside and outside the church. 
- Filled with joy, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit. (Gal. 5:22-23; Neh. 8:10; Phil. 4:4) 
- Not violent, quarrelsome, greedy, or given to dishonest gain. 
- Mature believer, not a recent convert. 
Pastoral & Ministerial Qualifications
- Committed to passionately preaching the Word consistently (30–40 weeks/year). (2 Tim. 4:2) 
- The goal of his instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, clear conscience, and sincere faith. (1 Tim. 1:5) 
- Fleeing youthful lusts, pursuing righteousness, faith, love, and peace. (2 Tim. 2:22) 
- Proven pastoral experience with a servant’s heart. (1 Pet. 5:1-4) 
- Sets mind on things above, maintaining a heavenly perspective. (Col. 3:1-4) 
- Minimum 15 years of pastoral experience and 4+ years of formal biblical/theological training (or equivalent) demonstrating mastery of Scripture, ministry leadership, and practical pastoral skills. Graduate degree in theology, ministry or related field preferred. 
- Multiple references required from previous ministry roles, mentors, and spiritual leaders to verify character, doctrinal soundness, and pastoral effectiveness. 
Relational & Leadership Qualifications
- Authentic love for Christ and the Church. (John 14:15; Eph. 5:25-27) 
- Grace-oriented and focused on discipling others. (2 Tim. 2:1-2) 
- Willing to suffer for the sake of the Church’s sanctification and salvation. (2 Tim. 2:3-6, 10) 
- Team player, able to submit to others and lead collaboratively. 
- Approachable and relational; spouse supports ministry if married. 
- Divorce considerations are addressed with transparency. 
Accountability:
- Reports to the Board of Elders and is accountable to the Board of Elders. 
- The Senior Pastor will be an elder. 
- Senior Pastor is subject to periodic performance evaluations by the Board of Elders. 
- Agrees with Creekside Community Church Statement of Faith.
